Library Instruction Request
All faculty members at EMCC are welcome to schedule Library Instruction sessions for your classes both day and night. The Library offers several types of Instruction sessions. Here is a sampling:
- Brief Library Introduction (10 15 minutes):
This session is appropriate for the beginning of a semester when your students have not yet been given a research-based assignment. A Librarian can visit your class for 10-15 minutes to briefly talk about the Library and show students how to access our many online resources.
- General Library Instruction (30 50 minutes):
This session is most effective when your students have a research assignment that we can tailor our demonstrations to. This session covers basic Library navigation, how to find help, accessing electronic resources from off campus, and becoming familiar with one or two specific databases. If you would like us to do a General Library Instruction Session and you do not have an assignment, we have an introductory Library assignment that we would be happy to provide and also grade. This session usually takes 3050 minutes.
- Navigating the World Wide Web (20 - 50 minutes):
This session provides instruction on using search engines and web directories, choosing good search terms, and evaluating web sites for validity.
- Custom Research Instruction (flexible):
We are happy to design a session specifically for your subject and current assignment. The session can be as long or short as necessary to meet the needs of your students. Generally, we will demonstrate how to do research for the paper or project assigned and then we use the rest of the class period to walk around and help students individually as they use Library resources to research their topics. It is best to have a computer classroom for this type of session and we can reserve one if your usual classroom does not have computers.
