The Library purchases subscriptions to several databases that contain magazine, journal, and newspaper articles along with full-text books and important images. These databases can be accessed from anywhere on campus. They can also be accessed remotely from the Library’s homepage as long as you have an employee ID (with a Library barcode on the back) OR a Blackboard login. We also provide a 24 hour/7 day a week chat service called Ask a Librarian. You can use this service or recommend it to your students for help using the Library’s resources, finding information, and finding the best sources.
The Library has a reserve area behind the desk. You can place materials that the Library owns or materials that you personally own on reserve. When you do this, you decide if students can check these materials out for one week, three days, overnight, or whether they can only be used in the Library. This is a great way to make materials that every student in your class must access available. If you would like to place something on reserve, please contact Terry Newbury at (623) 935-8196 or terry.newbury@estrellamountain.edu or stop by the Library Desk and ask for her.
You can ask the Library to order any materials (books, magazines, journals, streaming video, DVDs, CDs) you need as resources for your classes. We love it when faculty request materials because then we know that we are supporting your curriculum and that we will have what your students need to succeed. To request materials, please call Jennifer Wong, our Collection Development Librarian, at (623) 935-8091 or send her an e-mail at jennifer.wong@estrellamountain.edu
If you have an assignment that is going to require research on the part of your students you can request that a Librarian visit your class to talk about the resources we have that are relevant to your particular assignment. Librarians are also available to come and give a general overview of the Library, web validity, and searching skills. These visits can range anywhere from a ten minute session to an entire class period. We will work with you to create a session tailored to the specific needs of your class and the assignment. To request a classroom visit, please contact Nikol Price, our Instruction Librarian, at (623) 935-8087 or send her an e-mail at nikol.price@estrellamountain.edu
