Descriptions and Policies
E-Learning Course Development
E-Learning is the topic of a Campus Conversation scheduled for January 6, 2012 (12:30 p.m.- 3:00 p.m.) in the CTL. All faculty and staff are encouraged to attend. The College is also anticipating recommendations on E-Learning from the HLC Consultant/Evaluator team.
In addition, the MCCCD change in course management systems from Blackboard to Canvas is also likely to impact future directions for E-Learning at EMCC.
In light of the above, this year’s (2011-2012) Hybrid/Online course development and/or redesign application process needs to be approached as follows:
- Review the EMCC Top 25 Online Courses and EMCC Top 25 Hybrid Courses
- Meet with your Division Chair and Division Colleagues to decide the top 1-3 courses that you want to submit for funding (this can be redesign from Top 25 list or new development that supports AGEC completion and/or is essential to an occupational education certificate program)
- Division Chair Login to submit E-Learning Division Survey (Only Division Chairs have the ability to view the survey).
Learning College Grant
The purpose of the EMCC Learning College Grants is to support projects that are designed to improve, advance and enrich student learning. These projects are supported on a one-time basis in the form of stipends/reassigned time for faculty. Proposals must clearly address the learning college questions of “How does this effect student learning?” and “How will we know?”. This grant category strongly encourages faculty to collaborate within and across divisions to impact student learning through Learning College Grants.
Eligibility: All full time, Board Approved Faculty. Adjunct Faculty are able to participate if aligned to a Residential Faculty Member.
Note: Stipends for faculty cannot exceed the equivalent of 3 hours of reassigned time. All participation in grant activities counts toward the total load of faculty members.
Faculty interested in forming a Learning Community need to apply to the Learning Grants category. Special requirements are imposed for Learning Communities as they require a commitment of the College and the faculty through 2 academic years. Read link below before you complete your online grant submission.
Innovation (good idea) Grant
The purpose of Innovation Grants is to provide resources and support to EMCC employees who have unique, innovative and/or creative projects, ideas, and/or solutions that contribute to increased collaboration, efficiency, and/or quality within any area (instruction, student support, community relations) of the College. These grant proposals can request funding for capital projects, software, major events, or to pilot process improvements. These proposals must align with the College’s strategic directions. An example of a project that would have been proposed in the Innovation Grant category is the creation and installation of the Saltwater Reef Tank in Montezuma Hall. Before submitting a proposal, you are required to discuss your project with your Division Chair, Director and/or Dean.
Eligibility: All full time, Board approved employees. OYO, OSO, Adjunct and temporary employees may participate as part of a team that includes full time, Board approved employees.
Note: The CTL Advisory Committee will serve as the review panel and will make recommendations each month to fund (if amount requested is under $ 5000.) or to issue a call for a more detailed proposal if the request exceeds $ 5000. Senior Leadership will also be part of the review process for requests over $5000.
A unique aspect of this grant is that good ideas can happen at any time so this grant category remains open for application throughout the academic year, August 15 – April 15. The April cut off for submission is to allow time for the CTL Advisory Committee to act on proposals in their May meeting.
One caution, no project funding can cross fiscal years so if you receive funds in May of one fiscal year – it is best to be able to complete the project by June 30th of that same year or you should consider delaying application until the following August.
If a second round of funding is needed, the requestor must complete another Innovation Grant request for consideration to support a 2nd year of funding.
Technology-Enhanced Grant
Technology-Enhanced Course Redesign
The EMCC Technology-Enhanced Grant Program is designed to assist Faculty in achieving EMCC's commitment to teaching excellence by incorporating technology into their course(s) as a component to enhance student learning and improve their role as a scholar. All faculty are eligible to participate in the Technology-Enhanced Grant Program. Technology experience of participants may range from little to highly proficient. Faculty whose Technology-Enhanced Grant proposal is approved will receive a one load hour stipend as compensation.
Eligibility: Residential Faculty, Adjunct Faculty, OYO, OSO.
