Wellness Workbooks:

Counts for approximately 10% of the final grade. First, Second, Third and Fourth semester fitness center students must complete a minimum number of Wellness Assignments for the grade desired. Each assignment consists of a short video tape (on reserve in the information commons), several articles and a self test (available on the Campus Internet). Students will receive credit for the assignment when the test is turned into the fitness center and has been graded.

Students will not receive workout credit for Wellness assignments.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Fitness activity and wellness study to help develop a lifetime of regular exercise, stress management, and proper nutrition. Workout includes warm-up/stretch,aerobic exercise, selected strength exercises, and cool down/stretch. May be repeated for a total of eight (8) credits. Prerequisites: None.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Students will:

  • learn the basic principles and benefits of lifetime fitness and exercise programming
  • develop a personal program for maintenance of ideal body composition, flexibility, muscular strength and endurance, cardiovascular conditioning and blood pressure
  • develop a safe and effective exercise program through the selection of appropriate exercises, proper body alignment, correct adjustment of equipment, and correct heart rate or exertion monitoring
  • learn the skills for success in self improvement in physical fitness and wellness through self-motivation, goal setting, and discipline
  • learn the components of wellness and to participate in activities that will assist in improving self-confidence, self esteem, body image and promotes a healthy lifestyle
  • improve total body control by learning proper body mechanics, posture, breathing techniques and relaxation, which aids in back care and injury prevention
