Part 13 : CPR/First
Aid/Safety
SAFETY
Child Safety
Be especially alert to hazards that may affect children and
elderly.
tips
- Keep the kitchen clean and neat
- Clean up immediately after spills
- Keep play activities out of the kitchen
- Avoid using accordion style gates (children can get their
heads stuck in them)
- Use seat belts
In the kitchen
- Parents have often accidentally knocked scalding hot food or
boiling water down onto their children. Children have also pulled
pots of hot food down on themselves. While cooking, turn all pot
handles away from the stove's edges.
- Be careful not to heat up a handle over another burner.
- Install a smoke detector and fire extinguisher in your kitchen
and never wear loose clothing while cooking.
- Cut children's food into small pieces.
- Give them small portions.
- Do not leave out pet dishes (especially if you have filled
them with small dry foods, small children have choked on pet food
and babies have drowned in water dishes).
FIRE SAFETY TIPS
- Install and maintain smoke detectors
- Practice a home fire escape plan
- Keep lighters and matches out of the reach of children
