| The
Learning Enhancement Center at EMCC provides free
instructional support to students attending the
college. We assist students with
learning various strategies that promote academic
success. It is our belief that these services
should enhance students' development of cognitive and
problem-solving skills that will assist them in becoming
independent learners. Furthermore, we believe that
these skills can serve as basic tools that students
can use throughout their lives.
Drop-In Tutoring:
We offer drop-in tutoring for students. You can sit down with a
trained tutor who help you with your course work, walking you through any
problem areas and assisting you in understanding the material. We also
offer appointment-based one-on-one sessions designed to improve students'
general study skills.
Make-up Testing and Proctored
Tests:
Some instructors allow make-up testing for students who miss a test.
Make-up testing is offered by the LEC with instructor's approval. You will
need to provide a valid picture ID and allow yourself plenty of time to take the
test. We also assist with proctored tests, designed for
students who have a documented disability. Contact Ramona Shingler for more
information about this process.
Study Skills Tips and
Resources:
We have textbooks for many courses at the Learning Enhancement Center, and we
are developing links to online resources.
SMARTHINKING Online Tutoring:
SMARTHINKING is an online tutoring service
that provides support for students in writing, math, and chemistry. This
service has been useful for students in Accounting and Economics
courses. To use SMARTHINKING, you need to be enrolled as a student at EMCC,
and you need to sign up. See the LEC for assistance signing up for
SMARTHINKING.
ESL Tutoring:
Students needing help with ESL courses may meet with tutors on a drop-in basis.
During these sessions, tutors help students with: writing assignments,
pronunciation practice, and conversation skills. We will also assist
students with Project L.E.E., SMARTHINKING, and word processing.
Spanish Tutoring:
We offer Spanish language tutoring during limited hours. See the LEC staff
for hours of availability. We can assist students with: homework
exercises, writing assignments, pronunciation practice, and conversation skills.
Study Rooms:
You can reserve a study room or use our facility as a comfortable place to
study. We can also assist you in organizing a study group.

The Learning

We are open from 7am to 8pm Monday - Thursday and from 7am to 5pm on Friday.
